Welcome to our space studio

Experience astronomy and space travel in the rustic ambience of a historic farmhouse barn. The main attraction is the Apollo 13 space capsule, which was built for the film launch of the Hollywood blockbuster of the same name with Tom Hanks in the early 1990s. Children and adults can sit in the cockpit and enjoy the feeling of a spaceflight to the moon.

An exhibition in the space studio would like to make the universe comprehensible. The vast distances can be explored by means of specially manufactured models with the sense of touch, which also facilitates access to astronomy for blind people.

In the rooms of the space studio, award-winning large-format sky photographs from the collection of the Saarland astrophotographer Sebastian Voltmer are exhibited. There are also rarely presented film sequences in which famous astronauts and cosmonauts from the USA and the former Soviet Union report on their adventures and describe how they had mastered the journey to the moon or the first and life-threatening exit from a space capsule in Earth’s orbit.
On the area of the farmhouse, observations of the sun or the starry sky are also possible if the weather is suitable. Telescopes are available. The so-called “Southwest German Einhaus” also has a well-preserved and romantic vaulted cellar, which invites you to have a drink.
